Gaming Fingers

Gaming Fingers.
"But what is it?" You may be asking.

I play computer video games often. And what do a lot of them have in common? WASD. Yes. WASD.

A lot of games have the same keyboard moves. For example: A lot of games use the keys WASD for moving, and the space bar for jumping. Pretty basic and very common.
It wasn't until recently that I noticed that whenever I reach a keyboard, (computer keyboard not piano, of course) my left hand automatically assumes the formation of resting on WASD. It's as if my hand is ready at any moment to play some Minecraft or Overwatch.

So how did this happen? Did I game too much during the ages where most kids would learn proper keyboarding techniques? Have my fingers gotten so used to the gaming format that anything else is considered subconsciously uncomfortable?
I still type at an accurate and quick pace. I still make mistakes while typing, but no more than some other people. Gaming Fingers™ doesn't really affect my normal computer usage.

So what about you? Do you have Gaming Fingers™? Do you find your fingers resting in a "non-conventional" way? Do you play video games often? Or perhaps you'd like to explain why Gaming Fingers are a thing with powerpoints and slideshows?

Thanks for reading! Catch you next time!

  1. It's quite amazing the way one's fingers are set up on the keyboard when they first get on. It all depends on what you did previously on that keyboard or what you do often on the keyboard.
